Ethiopia and Kenya are working to become the first countries to build 500 kV power lines in the region. Once completed, power lines are expected to transmit 2,000 megawatts of electricity.


  At present, the power lines are being built by China Electric Power Technology Equipment Company. The project is expected to be completed by September 2018, which lasted more than a year.

The estimated cost of the electricity line project is $ 1.26 billion, financed by the African Development Bank. It is reported that power lines extend 1045 km, of which 445 km are located in Ethiopia.

A year ago, Ethiopia and Kenya proposed a power interconnection project concept, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement with a power interconnection system.
